Definition
Simple electronic signature (SES)
The most basic signature level, such as a typed name or a checked box, with no identity verification behind it.
In Depth
SES is the entry-level tier, and it maps to the plain definition of an electronic signature. A pasted image of your signature, a typed name, or an "I accept" tick all qualify. These are legal and used constantly for low-risk agreements. Because nothing verifies who actually signed, they are the easiest to challenge if someone later claims it wasn't them.
Varies by region as a named category. "SES" is EU and UK terminology from the eIDAS tier system. The US does not use the label, but the same everyday signatures are perfectly valid there under ESIGN and UETA; they just aren't sorted into tiers.
